Okay, it’s time I laid off the scheduled posting, and came back for real. It’s been an insane few weeks in the Rooney household – we moved, then we moved again, then we moved back, then my cousin passed away, then everyone sent me to see my best friend before I completely lost it, and a million more things. But now I’m back, rejuvenated and detox-ed (fact: being around a good friend beats a spa any day). And it’s time to get my sh*t together and get back.
First up, have I totally alienated my YA crowd? I’m sorry – that romance week was long overdue, but I’m behind on my YA reviews as well, and be assured that you’ll see practically nothing else for a while!
Also, on a similar topic, there hasn’t been a WoW post in TWO WEEKS?! OMG WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?! Somehow I totally didn’t realize that I’d run out of scheduled WoW posts, and didn’t bother to check until yesterday, which was already Thursday. Shame on me.
I’ll make it up now, though. Because in case you hadn’t heard, Justine Larbalestier’s upcoming (and highly anticipated) LIAR has a new cover! And here it is:
Micah will freely admit that she’s a compulsive liar, but that may be the one honest thing she’ll ever tell you. Over the years she’s duped her classmates, her teachers, and even her parents, and she’s always managed to stay one step ahead of her lies. That is, until her boyfriend dies under brutal circumstances and her dishonesty begins to catch up with her. But is it possible to tell the truth when lying comes as naturally as breathing? Taking readers deep into the psyche of a young woman who will say just about anything to convince them—and herself—that she’s finally come clean, Liar is a bone-chilling thriller that will have readers see-sawing between truths and lies right up to the end. Honestly.
For those of you who have no clue what on earth the excitement is all about (other than the fact that this book sounds FANTASMICAL!), is that the protagonist is African-American, and the original cover featured a model that was… not. Which, as you would expect, created a HUGE uproar in the YA community. Why shouldn’t a book with a black face sell?
The result is visible above. VIVA LA REVOLUTION! =D Let it be known that our voices are heard, and that our opinions do matter. Now pre-order the book and make us proud! (The book comes out in October, not Sept as Amazon says. And yes, you will get the new cover!)
Other important things to note:
* Adele put up a fantastic Guide to YA Blogging that covers a lot of important things. Anyone who’s starting a blog, already running one, or thinking of starting one should read this CAREFULLY and follow it religiously. I didn’t even realize how much I was screwing up until I read it!
* My contests sidebar is hopelessly behind schedule, I know. I haven’t had the chance to browse any contests lately, because of my erratic internet schedule. Anyone know of any good ones, PLEASE let me know! In fact, I’m going to randomly pick someone who links to a YA contest anywhere (open worldwide) and send them a surprise book from my collection. So help me out here!
Anyhooo, I think that covers it. Oh yeah, that reminds me, I’m working on a new project, one that you’ll hear about soon. This might just be what I’m doing with the rest of my life, so keep your fingers crossed!
More soon! xoxo
