Waiting on Wednesday – Week 3

Yeah, yeah. You know the drill. I’m triple WoW-ing until I get tired of it. There’s just so much on my wishlist! It only went down from 300 to 243 in the last 3 months! (No, seriously)

Love is the Higher Law – David Levithan

First there is a Before, and then there is an After. . . .

The lives of three teens – Claire, Jasper, and Peter – are altered forever on September 11, 2001. Claire, a high school junior, has to get to her younger brother in his classroom. Jasper, a college sophomore from Brooklyn, wakes to his parents’ frantic calls from Korea, wondering if he’s okay. Peter, a classmate of Claire’s, has to make his way back to school as everything happens around him.

Here are three teens whose intertwining lives are reshaped by this catastrophic event. As each gets to know the other, their moments become wound around each other’s in a way that leads to new understandings, new friendships, and new levels of awareness for the world around them and the people close by.

David Levithan has written a novel of loss and grief, but also one of hope and redemption as his characters slowly learn to move forward in their lives, despite being changed forever.

Is this out already? I have no clue… I thought it was out in August… but either way, it’s not here yet, and I reeaaalllyyyy want to read this. I’m surprised there hasn’t been a YA novel about 9/11 before this… we ARE the only generation of youngsters to have experienced this  and watch it change our world. Okay, I’ll stop, I could write a whole post about this. I’m really looking forward to this one!

The Dark Divine – Bree Despain

A prodigal son

A dangerous love

A deadly secret . . .

I stood back and watched his movements. Daniel had that way about him that could shut me down in an instant. . . . I kicked the gravel a couple of times and worked up my courage again. “Tell me . . . I mean . . . why did you come back? Why now, after all this time?”

Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared—the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in blood. But she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night really held. And when Daniel returns three years later, Grace can no longer deny her attraction to him, despite promising Jude she’ll stay away.

As Grace gets closer to Daniel, her actions stir the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind Jude and Daniel’s dark secret . . . and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it—her soul.

Wooooooo would you look at that cover? Definitely one of the hottest ones I’ve seen in a while. For those of you who don’t know, Bree has put up the first chapter at her website, and you do NOT want to miss it. Stunning! A definite Valentine’s week requirement 😉

All Unquiet Things – Anna Jarzab

All Unquiet Things centers around the murder of teen heiress Carly Ribelli, who was found shot to death a mile from her house in a wealthy Northern California suburb. Carly’s uncle, a dissolute alcoholic, was convicted of the crime, but a year later his daughter still doesn’t believe her father is guilty. Determined to prove his innocence, Audrey Ribelli contacts Carly’s ex-boyfriend, Neily Monroe, the boy who found Carly’s body. She is convinced that he knows more than he thinks about the events that led up to Carly’s death. Despite Neily’s initial reluctance, he and Audrey begin their investigation at the posh private school they attend, identifying prime suspects from among their spoiled classmates and digging up secrets about Carly’s past to get to the truth behind her murder.

Murder mysteries… mmm, I like. And that cover is gorgeous! PLUS it comes out about a week before my birthday *coughcoughhintcough*
