Giving away My Big Nose!!!

No, I don’t mean that literally. That just means that this is:

*\o/* MY FIRST GIVEAWAY!!!*\o/*

<CONFETTIS! TRUMPETS! LURRVEZ!>

Since I know a lot of people are dying to read it, I think it’s only fair that I give away my SIGNED COPY of MY BIG NOSE AND OTHER NATURAL DISASTERS by Sydney Salter!

So, lovely readers, listen up! I want you to comment on this post with your most embarrassing summer memory. Make it crazy, because I’m going to need a lot of laughs/cringes/gasps of horror over the next 2 weeks of doom.

Then, I want you to post a link to this contest somewhere (Facebook, Twitter, Blog… anywheeerreee!) and comment AGAIN [this is important – you MUST give me links in a separate comment]. So you can have a total of TWO entries/comments, one with your story, and one with any links to where you posted this (sorry, no extra entries for additional links – but I’ll be really grateful if you do anyway!). Make sure you give me a way to contact you in each comment.

This contest is open to EVERYONE (authors, readers, bloggers, sea anemones), WORLDWIDE (provided post can reach you in some way) and ends on SATURDAY, JULY 4, 2009 (which, ironically, is my independence day from this blasted research project).

So, to recap:

  1. Comment with your most embarrassing summer memory (this is not optional!)
  2. For one extra entry, post this somewhere else and comment again with the links.
  3. Add your email address to each of your comments.
  4. The contest is open to everyone, everywhere!
  5. Ends at 12:01am EST on July 4, 2009 (I’ll pick a winner that same weekend)

So hurry, get your entries in! (And if you have problems commenting, email me at mya DOT rooney AT gmail DOT com – though remember that I have to approve comments before they show up, so don’t fret if you can’t see it at first. Check back later).

Okay, yes, I talk too much. And yes, that is some incredibly messy formatting. Shut up. Go! Enter! Shoo!

PS This contest is brought to you (in part) by the YA Book Carnival!

I don’t want your big nose! LOL:-D JK, couldn’t resist that double entandre.. I know you didn’t mean that 😀
My most embarrassing summer memory-so many to choose from! I guess I have to say the time me and my friend were washing the car and my not-so-secret crush biked by with 2 of his friends. She proceeded to yell, “Hey! Amy likes you!” Of course I strangled her afterwards. That’s actually not my most embarrassing moment(not even close!) but I’m not quite at the point where I can laugh about my most embarrassing moment. Probably never will.

  3. My most embarrassing would have to be when my friend and I were walking around town-my town has a huge 4th of July with fireworks and people come from all over-I was about 15 and I fell and tripped over the sidewalk edge and fell and my sucker got stuck in my hair and there were hot guys driving by. so embarrasing. Now when I think about it I still get all embarrassed. lol..

  5. My most embarrassing summer moment happened when I was around 10 years old, I think. I didn’t know how to swim then but I had these inflatable thingies you put in your arms so that you don’t sink. I was so smug then, doing everything I could think of while I still floating on the water. The other onlookers (kids) were all staring at me like I’m a swimming champion (haha, not really.) Anyway, I thought I was so great that I decided to take off the inflatables and show off. Well, you can guess what happened next. LOL.

Embarrassing memory? Um… I guess when I was going down a water slide at the pool, and I hit my head on it, somehow. Not really sure how…
It didn’t hurt or anything, but my friends were all laughing when I came down.

    Thanks for the contest!

  9. Oh gosh, I”m not sure what my most embarrasing was….one would probably be…I was at this camp one time (not a summer camp, a family camp kind of thing where people stayed in trailers and stuff) and I was pushing a friend on the swing…it was this wooden baby swing though…and I had a towel around my waist. The towel started slipping, so I leaned down to pull it up, looked back up and BAM! the swing smacked me in the face. Blood everywhere. I had to go to the hospital and get stitches. Not too exciting. lol

  10. I think that my most embarrassing summer memory would have to be the fact that when I was younger I used to dance around my front yard in my bathing suite as cars drove by … of course I wasn’t embarrassed then, but I am when I think about t now since I was like 15 when it happened which is way past the cute stage 😉

When I was a summer party for getting out of school and I was walking down the steps to get to the lake and I slipped on mud somehow on my way and fell into the lake right in front of all the guys in my class (including my crush)

My most embarrassing summer memory was last year… I was playing volleyball with my sister (who was a senior while I was a freshman) on the school grounds. All the guys in her class were on the other court adjacent to ours, and I became a little cocky trying to impress them.

Our game was going well, so the gym teacher called the guys over and asked my sister to demonstrate a basic volley for them. So she played a really simple shot that I sort of skipped to hit back. I tripped on my shoelace and fell in a really embarrassing way screaming “aaatrhghgnghmommmyyyyy!” I couldn’t look the seniors in the face after that.

  15. So, a few years back I was participating in Relay for Life (to raise money for the Cancer Society) and of course, when you get a bunch of teenyboppers together, things get crazy. Too much sugar etc., and we were all acting really hyper. So, there’s this huge chain grocery store called Loeb’s (dunno if there’s one over where you live?) Anyway, they’re sponsering a tent, and it’s really hectic so we can’t find it.

So we find a volunteer and decide to ask her for directions. I walk up, intending to say “Where’s the Loeb’s tent?” except instead I saw “Loyyyy-bbb’s tent”. She just looked at me like I was really stupid, and replied kind of sarcastically, “You mean the LOBE’s tent?” Seriously stressing the word.

    Very mortifying.

Oohh, I remember that one! Me and my summer camp tourmates were to go to a mall in shanghai, unfortunately that mall only sells expensive, designer stuffs so we decided to escape once our “teachers” or “guardians” are inside the mall already. The news spread fast that we are going to escape and since everyone wanted to go somewhere they can actually buy stuff, there were already a lot of us. I was really excited so a few minutes after everyone got down from the bus, I immediately hailed for a cab and everyone who was supposed to escape followed, me and some of my friends were already inside the cab when suddenly we saw our “teachers” following us. It was a really, really bad move and everyone else saw how our teachers humiliated us in front of the cab driver and our other tour mates. Oh, such shame. So much for leading the pack, aye? So anyway! Thanks for holding such a wonderful contest and I really, really really hope I win!

  20. I came home with a couple of friends from a convention during the summer. I walked in sandals all day and was sweaty like crazy. When I finally took off my shoes to go grab something in my house, I trailed a set of dirty footprints. My friends tried not to laugh and looked away. It was so humiliating!

  21. Most embarrassing – after spending an afternoon with my boyfriend (we were 14) talking in the hayloft of his barn – his best friend tells me he was trying to get up the nerve to kiss me – talk about being self-conscious the next time we were together – did get that kiss though…

  22. My most embarrassing summer memory is I was standing on the beach with some of my friends (EXFRIENDS *laughs*) and they had decided to each grab a string of my string bikini. I walked away a bit and my bikini just kind of stayed with them instead of on me. Luckily I don’t think anyone else was really looking/paying attention(either that or I just blocked it all out from the trauma of it all. *laughs* I’m kidding it wasn’t that embarrassing). But it was still pretty blushworthy and they always bring it up when we go to the beach I have not switched to tankinis and surfer shorts. Better safe then sorry I guess.

  24. My most embarrassing summer memory was a few summers ago when I was waiting at an airport for a friend’s family to arrive. It was SO hot, like it usually is here in dang Houston, TX (especially in the summer), so I was planning on eating a delicious cold Popsicle. I went to buy one from a store there at the airport and as I licked it my tongue got stuck to it!! It was sooo embarrassing you have no idea. And not only that but I was freaking out because I was feeling like that poor kid from A Christmas Story. 😦 Well, the embarassment didn’t stop there. B/c this lady was trying to be helpful she threw here cold drink, with ice and all, at my face. On the bright side it did help get my tongue free but on the other hand I was all wet from her drink. My whole face was wet and part of my shirt too. It sucked 😦 I can’t remember exactly how old I was when it happened, around 8 I think, but I was definitely old enough to be really embarrassed.

  25. Uuuuum, I can’t really think of any right now- OH! Would one from a month ago count? I was going up to the convenience store to buy a popsicle, and I’m wearing new shoes, and just as I go buy the Church next door to my house where probably 5-10 kids my age are hanging around, I trip, and the only thing that saved me from scraped knees and palms were that I was wearing sweats and the sleeves over my hands.

I was at my friends house a couple days ago because he has a pool. So, I just got this new swim suit, but it’s a little big on me. Well, I I dove in off the diving board, and underwater, I realized my bottoms came down. I pulled them up really quickly, but I felt so embarrassed. I still don’t know if any one saw.

I have this really embarrassing summer memry from last year’s summer. A few of us classmates went to a park sort of place. One of them carried a basketball because everyone other than me were athletic. For me…let’s jut say…I’m TERRIBLE at it.
So anyways, they got in a circle and started doing some crazy moves. But then one of them had to go away and they needed a replacement. Guess who?
    Yours truly.
So I reluctantly joined them after getting threatened to be thrown over the park compound (:P). One of them did this move of passing the ball to the next person by dribbling it forward through the space between her legs. The next did the same and so did everyone. FInally it was my turn. I thought, no biggie, looks easy enough. So I do. But instead of dribbling forward it dribbles high and hits me…guess where.
They laughed until they had no breath left and I kinda started laughing too. But it was EMBARRASSING!

  30. My most embarassing summer memory was when I went to visit my future in-laws. Got ready for church on Sunday, was walking down the stairs, and slipped. clum bump clum bump clum bump clum bump bam. Ow. And by the time I got to church, I had bruises everywhere. Then when I was being introduced to people, I was bruisy. Later I found out they all thought my boyfriend (now hubbie) was abusive! My m-i-law had to set them all straight and tell them i was clumsy. Now, every time I visit… they remember the bruised girl ’cause she’s clumsy.

  31. My most embarrassing summer memory was when I was at summer school (for studio art and pottery, not because I failed a class) when I was about 9. There was this person in my studio art class named Jackie, and I honestly could not tell if she was a girl or a boy. She was obsessed with sports and had really short hair, and her voice even sounded like a boy’s, so I ended up asking the teacher if she was a girl or a boy. So embarrassing…
